In Romania, coal supports about 30% of the electricity consumed nationwide and even more during the periods of drought.
CE Oltenia provides over 95% of the Romanian lignite production. Apart from the coal needed for the operation of its thermal power plants, CE Oltenia also delivers coal to the following beneficiaries: UATA Motru.
The European Union Directive promoting renewable energy provides also the requirement to invest in conventional power plants in order to ensure the backup during the periods without wind or sun.
